Idle games, which progress even when the player is not actively engaged or the game is closed, typically require minimal or optional interaction from the player. Similar to incremental games, like clicker or tap games, earning the "Idle" genre label due to the autonomous progress feature. Idle games focus on gradual advancement or exponential growth, with achievements marking progress milestones. While some offer endless play, others conclude after reaching specific goals. Interaction, when present, revolves around clicks to accelerate progress, item selection, or purchasing upgrades. The first game of the genre is attributed to Progress Quest (2002).
