Description of Frogger

Frogger is a 1/2 player game in which the players have to move their frog from the bottom of the screen to the top. Numerous hazards must be avoided to win the game withour being run over or drowned.

First half of the screen is a bidirectional flow of road traffic, including buses, cars and race cars. The second half of the screen consists of a river with moving logs and sinkable turtles. The frogs must hop on the logs and the sinkable turtles to get home at the top of the screen.

Some bonus points are given if you hop on a lady frog on a log and escort her home. A fly may appear as well in the home base, giving extra points. The river also has crocodiles, snakes and otters, them may be used to cross the river except for the snake, those are deadly for the frog. The other animals can be used when their mouth is closed.

I remember playing this on the BBC Micro at junior school. Graphics were a bit naff even at the time (I was used to playing on a C64 and a ColecoVision before that). I remember the large discs on the BBC Micro, 8.5" if I remember right. For some reason, the teacher had this game and let a few of us at a time play this. Most of the games we "played" during computer time in class were predominantly maths games. Simple, but at a time when we were out on BMXs or skateboards, climbing trees or in abandoned houses, playing slam on streets with no cars around, this was a time when games like this were novel and such entertainment was second fiddle to everything else. Fun at the time, but given a choice, we'd rather play out in the 80s.

...I wish that the original Mac files would be available for those of us that are running these games on our vintage Macs. Files made for Mini vMac are nice, but don't run on "real" Macs.

hmmmm....are you sure the Frogger download link is to the right file?
When I load it, it is a folder called "Sierra" with only "Finder" and "System" inside -- no frogger to be found! Thanks for re-checking
