Simulation games are a diverse category of games that attempt to simulate elements of the real world and often they have no strictly defined goal beyond the simulated activity. So if you’d like the challenge of trying a new activity or experience, then this genre will appeal.

Within the genre there are a large number of management and strategic planning games which share features with the strategy genre, without the goal of conquering an opponent. Games like SimCity, A-Train and Theme Hospital are examples of management simulators. The theme extends to sports simulators, such as the Championship Manager games where the focus in on managing a team and its resources.

Along with management simulators there are games that focus more closely on activities such as combat or vehicle simulators. Microsoft Flight Simulator, Jane’s Combat Simulations and the submarine simulator Silent Service are activity simulators worthy of attention.
