Description of Macadam Bumper

Macadam Bumper is a very early pinball simulation with the nice option to create your own pinball tables. For its time quite nice, although ball physics are not comparable with today's standards. It was designed by Remi Herbulot (now at Cryo), as you can see in the lovely intro picture of the game. :)

The game assumes to find its table files in the root directory, so you should play the game from a floppy disk or by using SUBST. A slow-down util is required on modern computers.

Overall, a fun early pinball game that would predate a slew of more realistic pinball sims later on.

DBGL: Importing Macadam Bumper from DBGL (dosbox game launcher) doesn't give any problem and the game runs correctly.

D-fend Reloaded: here the game has problems, it is best NOT to import it with auto setup, instead import via user template, then Macadam does not load the pinballs, they appear empty. This is fixed in: edit, drives, add folder mounting (macadam bumper) in virtualHD of D-fend R.

"subst a c:\macadam" did the trick for me. And yeah, it's a really old game in many ways, so the ball physics are iffy. I used to play this on my Amstrad CPC and didn't know any better back then (it was the only pinball game I had!), so managed to enjoy it regardless, and had fun making custom tables. However, I think the improved graphics in this IBM version don't really "match" the primitive game engine, so the experience feels jarring to me. Didn't have such problems with Pinball Construction Set and Night Mission Pinball, because those both look and feel very old.

Play this a couple times just to see what we had in the old days, and then move on to Tristan.
