Description of Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade: The Action Game
When LucasArts (then LucasFilm Games) released an adventure game based on blockbuster movie Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade in 1989, an action game based on the same movie was concurrently released, but never racked up as much sales or recognition as its adventuring brethren. This failure (by Lucas' standards) isn't so surprising, however, when fans get over the initial excitement and start to scrutinize the game behind the hit license.
This game may be fun for a while, but soon the fun of watching Indy use his trademark whip wears off, and fans are left with a marginally above-average platform game where each new level looks suspiciously like the last. A very frustrating difficulty level also means that only diehard Indy fans will be compelled to finish this one... only to watch a disappointing ending that is little more than closing credits.
Overall, this is another powerhouse license botched by game developers, and a reminder of why LucasArts should stick to its proven expertise in adventure games.

Played this one on C64 as well. I was a 11yo kid at the time, obviously a huge fan of everything Indy, and obviously again, very susceptible to marketing, LOL.
Pretty much a standard movie tie-in. Meaning, it's a crappy game, but with fond memories. But there are some fun mechanics, like the torch that gets depleted over time, lightning strikes an the castle level etc... IT's definitely inspired by adventure platformers of the time, like the DuckTales on the NES, but it doesn't even come close to that in gameplay.
This was the first game I ever finished I believe. I even used a VCR to tape the playtrough. I then showed and borrowed the cassette to friends. Lo-Fi late 80s game streaming right there baby!
Some time later I saw the proper game, the "graphic adventure" running on the PC, and then The Fate of Atlantis... my poor old C64 never felt so obsolete as with these games compared...

I was obliged to play this game on the C64. I saw it reviewed on Commodore Format and it received a less than reasonable review as a budget re-release. My late gran bought me this one birthday and first thought was along the lines of "Ohhhhhhh!" Still played it, far from a favourite, but I did play it. As it was a gift, I kidded myself it was ok at the time and after a bit, just used Action Replay cheats to see the game all the way through. Personally I think the best Indiana Jones games were released on the PC in the 90s.

Steam is only selling the Graphic Adventure, not the Action Game, which is the one that should be here because it's still abandonware.
