Dune 2000
Windows - 1998
Description of Dune 2000
Dune 2000 is a real time strategy game developed by Intelligent Games and released by Westwood Studios in 1998. This game is a reimagining of the seminal RTS Dune II. Westwood Studios created that game as well as the ever-popular Command and Conquer series.
Dune 2000 takes place in the ever-expansive Dune universe written by Frank Herbert and son Brian. The gameplay lets you play as the three major factions of the first book. The Atriedes, Ordos, or Harkonen forces. The mission tasks allow you to have different goals such as harvesting enough spice or the RTS staple mission 'destroy everything.' There are different difficulty levels that allow newcomers and veterans of the genre alike.
The colorful sprites and backgrounds allow for tons of enemies on screen. The stand-out feature of this game are the somewhat dated, but entertaining full motion video cut scenes. The characters speak directly to the camera to you as the military commander, and are a nice touch given the quality of the costumes. John Rhys-Davies from the show Sliders and Gimli in the Lord of the Rings trilogy offers a decent performance despite the CD-quality video.
The music provides a quality orchestral sound to the epic battles. The grunts and responses from infantry to the tank units provide reinforcement to the gameplay.
Overall the game is great for fans of Dune and RTS games. For those trying to boot a disc onto a system from Windows 95 through XP it is recommended that you download the ISO and use a burner to create a disc. For those on newer (XP or higher) systems an updated version is available as the Gruntmods Edition offers higher resolution gameplay as well as online or LAN play at https://cncnet.org/dune-2000. Build your units and collect the melange.

Burning the ISO to a DVD then installing from the disk worked for me. On Linux.

Hi all,
I'm a massive Dune fan, and I got to say I'm loving this game. I'm not the biggest Real Time Strategy Vet, so I haven't had this much fun from an RTS since playing the original Warcraft all those years ago.
I experimented with all those download options listed below. I'm running on Windows 10.
-I Tried the ISO alone with install and 'mount' and it was a bit of a mess; FAILURE.
-I Tried the Gruntmods Edition, with the ISO extracted and mounted. I copied the movie and sound files from the extraction of the ISO. This was a nice trick BTW, but it has a major flaw. All movie files work, except for the Bene Gesserit introduction, and the Atreides Briefings that feature John Rhys Davies from Sliders and LOTR fame. I needed to see those cutscenes!! So...PLAYABLE, but not the complete package even after mass configuration
- I tried the OpenRA version. Installed easy enough and the whole interface has been given a modern uplift. It also has very ready online support and ongoing online skirmishes, even now. SO if that's your cup of tea, go for that. I also had the ISO lodged, so I'm not sure if SOME cutscenes work for that reason, but at least 4 Atreides Briefing cut-scenes with John Rhys Davies worked. But I'm hearing online that the OpenRA version is missing many of the Atreides missions (therefore missing those classic cut-scenes), plus it lacks the intro cut-scenes featuring the cinematic intro opening and the Bene Gesserit opening giving context to much of the campain. PLAYABLE, BUT IF YOU WAN'T THE CAMPAIN IN ALL ITS OLD SCHOOL GLORY, THEN YOU ARE MISSING OUT WITH THIS ONE.
I HAVE FOUND THE SOLUTION
Dune 2000 - All In One Installer.

Enjoy!

Back in the year 2000, my A-level IT class used to just spend the whole lesson playing this on the LAN. I can still see it now - a long row of beige 19-inch CRT monitors the size of fridges all showing pixellated desert. None of the machines had sound cards so the wars went on in silence.

Each his own about OpenRA-Dune2000. Tried it and no thankyou. To much changed and not for the better i'd say, just makes me want the original even more.
In its own aspect OpenRA makes a descent effort and certainly will appeal to plenty with the online+skirmish i reckon.

@NEBARI10
Yes I did and its fairly easy. Just unrar your ISO file, that you got from here. It has to be full ISO file, not the RIP version. Mount it with your Windows 10 (I believe thats what you are using XD ). Install OpenRA then and as soon as you star it, it will recognize the disc and will give you an option to install additional content, ie movies and music. Bam, you are all done and ready to kick some a55! ;)

If you are trying to run it on Windows 10, there is a quick-fix that is installing Manjaro https://manjaro.org/ or Pop!_OS https://pop.system76.com/ and run:
$ sudo pacman -S wine #Manjaro
or:
$ sudo apt install wine #PopOS
to install WINE.
There, now you can run any programas for any version of windows with commands like:
$ wine game.exe

@Bromie
You mean you managed to install the sounds and videos from the ISO to openRA? Share your wisdom, because that sounds awesome!
Bromie 2021-02-04 3 points
If you would like to run it in Windows 10, you can download Open Ra engine to run it in! Link here:

Just discovered it myself, had a little play and the game runs incredible! You can also mount ISO and install all the original music and videos! It works for Red Alert and Tiberian Dawn too.

Ah... the remake of Dune 2: The Building of a Dynasty. Very nice game, i also recommend playing Emperor: Battle For Dune, the sequel to Dune 2000.

I am having problems installing the game. It won't run with 64 bit and because I can't install it, I can't put the patch in the correct directory. Help?
moobeepbeep 2016-08-26 0 point
I struggled to get this working on a 64bit pc but there's a gruntmods edition worth looking for .... for the die hard fan. I used this download to copy the movie folder. What a game it's absolutely brilliant. Thankyou myabandonware.com for the download.
