In the 90s, these types of media emerged as a way to display media content in an interactive way, PC users would be able to select what to display using a dedicated interface. This would be a popular way to access behind the scene footage of movies or bands. Quality was very poor though due to the CD limitation and compression capacity of codecs available in the 90s.
